I think you lay out a very good case for why it's a terrible idea to get rid of anonymity. The same kind of stuff goes for atheists in fundamentalist Islamic countries, for example. To whom do they turn then? Where can they take the mask off and find their own safely?

But... https://twitter.com/MsOwllie/status/1356237868767838209
even these are just the tip of the iceberg. How employers could easily use your account to discriminate for job opportunities in ways that may be very bad (which they already do with Facebook, btw).

Like... it's just an awful terrible idea. I mean, people have been assholes...
on the internet to other people. Okay, that's not great. You know what's also not great? Being stalked because of your online presence when people realize they can find out where you live. Being executed for liking an atheist post in a fundamentalist country. Having your job...
taken from you for getting drunk and tweeting something stupid one night. And that's not even talking about the interpersonal problems with family it could create... like, it's just a terrible, terrible idea in every way.
I think some people are really, really naive about how many terrible people are out there who mean you active harm and would take the opportunity to harm you if you weren't protected by some degree of anonymity.
