When I was started in digital marketing, I thought content was easy to put together.

Here are 10 content hard truths I learned throughout my marketing career.

[thread below👇]
1. You can write the best of the best content but it will be useless if you can't bring people to read it.

Note here: You can always update and republish with a new promotion strategy in place.
2. Having one main keyword to target is a great first step, but what really matters are your secondary keywords—to clarify a topic [for bots] and help you rank for more keywords.

Tip: You can target two main keywords if the KD for one is outside of your current reach.
3. Consistently good content is better than one or two great pieces followed by loads of bad articles.
4. Break down your audience into exact personas, each with their own preferences, needs, and dislikes.
5. Always write content that resonates with your product or audience. In the latter case, find a way to still get those leads in order to see real results.
6. Focus on guest posting and link building from day one.

7. Don't copy headings and ideas just to nail the reader's intent. Focus on what needs your competitors couldn't meet and go out of your way to bring your own take to the table.
8. Don't be afraid to reach out to experts in a field for insights and quotes. That's a huge bonus to an article's credibility and prevents your article from being "yet another post".
9. When a keyword's SERP is already full and there's nothing better you can provide, look for low-volume keywords.

Finding new or unpopular keywords will allow you to be the first one there well before the keyword explodes.
10. Never say you can't afford something.

Take surveys and reports for example.

They seem costly but as long as you start ahead of time and are willing to prioritize this task, you'll end up with a report that will score loads of backlinks.
