I don't really know where to start with this. A Mitsubishi endowed Professor of Law at Harvard is arguing that comfort women were all prostitutes. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0144818820301848#
He published a version of that academic article on Japan Forward, an English language site run by Sankei Shinbun. https://japan-forward.com/recovering-the-truth-about-the-comfort-women/
This story is understandably getting a lot of traction in Korean language news media. But I haven't seen much response from scholars in the US. This is grotesque.
Many historians of Japan (including at Harvard) signed an open letter on this issue back in 2015. https://networks.h-net.org/system/files/contributed-files/japan-scholars-statement-2015.5.4-eng_0.pdf
We might want to ignore the article above, but given the front page reporting on it in Korea, which includes his institution in every report, I'm not sure we can, or should.
(just to be clear I'm not saying the lack of response is grotesque, I mean the article itself - it only just came out I believe)
