When the attack on the lorry driver en route to Larne happened the other week, I knew it was related to Brexit and not some bored teenagers, as was reported yesterday in the media. The remote location was the key. It was planned. The weapons were transported there on purpose. 1/
Now, Unionist politicians call on young people not to get involved in random acts of violence as a criminal record will affect their future prospects. Yet, many will not call out this orchestrated violence by organised crime gangs, who will do the bidding of their rhetoric. /2
Not enough to say that people are angry within the community about the sea border. It's there and it's not going away. The hard man rhetoric from the usual suspects about removing it will inevitably lead to deaths and they will have blood on their hands /3
They will try to wash it away but we all know what they are up to. The attempted murder of this lorry driver for political purposes needs to be highlighted and those who did it need to be caught. We must not allow this to happen again /4
No platforms should be given to those who will stoke this violence, whether that be on radio talk shows or with the NIO. People are angry but violent reaction must not be normalised or seen as inevitable. No more violence. Never again.
