LAKSHMAN JOURNEY FROM MRITYU LOK TO PARAM DHAM(महाप्रयाण) AND SAHASTRA DHARA IMPORTANCE

On the east side of Paapmochan tirth about hundred arrows further is Sahastra Dhara tirth which is the destroyer of all sins.
It was here that Laxman on the order of Shriram had left his worldly body through Yog shakti and acquired his original form of Sheshnaag.

After Shriram ascended the throne of Ayodhya and after he had settled everyone, once he sat with Kaal dev discussing devtas.
He instructed Laxman not to disturb him at any cost. If his instructions were not obeyed, he would renunciate that person.

So Laxman stood guarding the door so that no one entered the room. It was at that moment that Rishi Durvaasa came there.
He wanted to meet Shriram then and there. But Laxman did not give him entry. The Rishi insisted but Laxman was firm. Durvaasa then threatened to curse him. The fear of Durvaasa's curse made Laxman relent. He broke his promise and entered in to announce Durvaasa's arrival.
Shriram did not show any anger and welcomed the Rishi offering him food.

Laxman on realizing his disobedience, then walked towards river Saryu and sat on the Saryu waters in yogmudra. It was there that Sheshnaag with its thousands of snake hoods emerged from the ground
and the river water broke in thousands of waves. So this is how that place is known as Sahastra Dhara or thousands of waves.

Bathing here in Shravan shukla paksh panchami gives you moksha and destroys all your sins.
