2021 SENIOR BOWL STANDOUTS SERIES

Here's a series of some players and stats that either reaffirm their draft stock or to get you excited with their surge...

@TheUndroppables

UNC RB MICHAEL CARTER

the best RB at the Senior Bowl👇

...and yes, I'm gushing...

(a thread)
It probably was the worst Senior Bowl in terms of standouts. Maybe it's COVID, maybe the talent...

One this is for sure, North Carolina's Michael Carter was a standout.

He's got the production. And measuring at 5'7 7/8" and 202 pounds, he's starting to look more enticing.
If he could put on another 5 pounds or so then we are looking at the CEH & Maurice Jones-Drew👇 prototype...

Carter led all RBs in the game with 60 yards on 8 carries - 7.5 y/c including a TD.

Every other RB from both teams combined for 34 yards on 27 carries.

Big difference.
However, Carter's big performance shouldn't surprise many. He was prolific at UNC, running alongside Javonte Williams👇, who is only a junior and is RB#3 on most people's boards.
So let's look at the film..

The Good

Vision & Patience after handoff✅
Good burst✅
Great feet ✅
Great balance✅
Cuts well✅
Absorbs Hits Well✅
Understands the game✅
Weaknesses

Top End Speed is above average but not elite ❎
Elusive during first 5 yards but could be more elusive on longer runs (gets pushed out of bounds a lot)❎
Size - can always be bigger❎
Many say his blocking needs improvement❎
On the whole he's got the tools. Good pass catcher - seems to read the field well. Looks like he loves the game.

So what about the stats?
Still only 21.7 years old despite being a senior. ✅

BMI is around 31 which is perfect✅✅✅

College Target Share is above 8%✅

College Dominator is average at 21.9%✅
(sharing the field with Javonte hurts both)
Carter's 8 y/c is among the very best in 2020. However, remember he was seldom used in short yardage situations. UNC prefered Javonte.

Short yardage:

4.3% carries were short yardage for Carter.

JWilliams was 26.1%

This helps explain his 9 TDs to Javonte's 19.
He still had 21.5% of his touches in the red zone compared to JWilliams' 32.9%.

Two seasons over 1000 yards rushing on limited touches.

He's not been a workhorse which could be a concern to some but he still has tread on his tires.
Tied with Khalil Herbert👇 as the two RBs with the highest percentage of 21+ yard plays at 12%

Had the highest percentage of 14+ yards plays at 21%

Dude's pretty good. (ok, he's awesome)
82 catches over 4 years of production.

Consistent. Never surpassed 25 catches in a season but never caught less than 11.

Runs routes but isn't a technician. But is the type to want to learn and perfect his craft.
He was used less for Punt/Kick returns in 2020 but has shown to be good at it posting a career average of 22.5 yards per return. Had almost 500 yard in 2019.

Just another good way to get Carter on the field.
Production-wise Carter is a top RB in this class. His size compared to others may prohibit him from being a regarded at one of the Top-5 but I think he's an intelligent player who loves to play & wants to excel.

I think he'll test above average athletically.
Day 2 player who could go in the mid 2nd to late 3rd round range.

Would love him on Jacksonville playing alongside James Robinson. Would be a great tandem with T-Law.

Love the player and the person.👇🔥🚀😍💯
