I think Jose has really mismanaged the Dele situation. Clearly there’s more to it than what meets the eye. But this is what I have gathered from what we’ve seen. Firstly, telling the press he ‘created problems’ in that Stoke match when he was clearly low on confidence [THREAD] -
- and was also voted MOTM by the fanbase, just doesn’t sit right with me. This whole idea of the ‘Jose test’ and ‘Jose mind games’ just seems so redundant - particularly at a time like this where we are struggling for goals, and for that forward momentum. -
- Also telling the press he wouldn’t be surprised if Dele started the next PL match after his ‘professionalism and attitude’ versus Marine, just for him to be benched yet again and not get a single minute must have been so disheartening for him. -
- And I know Jose-defenders believe Dele should fight for his place, and show that same drive and hard work that Ndombele did, but how can he when he isn’t being given the same amount of minutes? How can he when Jose’s telling the press one thing, and clearly doing another??? -
- From what Spurs fans can see, Dele has played well in the cup ties, and has been mislead by Jose into thinking he will get more Premier League minutes, just for him to be benched, or not even get in the match day squad (not even over Gedson) time and time again. -
- He deserved the move to Paris, he deserves the chance to revive his career in a club where he’ll actually be given the minutes, and be given the ‘love and patience’ and ‘support’ that Poch has always told the media that Dele needs in order to fulfil his potential. -
- Every player needs a different approach. It is slightly shocking that Jose believes in this one-approach-fits-all mindset where he essentially alienates the player and forces them to work for his approval. Something that Dele is having to experience, something that Ndombele -
- had to experience. Yet something that Dier, a player who he has previously expressed a fondness for, but who has recently consistently made mistakes and been at fault for many of our conceded goals, has not even been close to experiencing. -
- So yeah. I just feel very sad for Dele at the false hope that he must have experienced at the oppurtunity of a move to Paris, and a chance to revive his career under a manager who knows and understands him. Another however many months underneath Jose might actually finish -
- Dele’s career; if Jose continues his ‘mind games’, if Dele isn’t given more minutes with which to prove himself, if Dele bench-warms for the next half of the season I think it will be a disgrace, and I’m sure many other football fans (Spurs fans and others) will agree.
ALSO!!! at this point last season - Ndombele had already played in 16 premier league matches. Dele has played in 4 premier league matches this season. Same expectations, but much less opportunity for a chance to prove himself to Jose......
