Some eye watering figures here, such as 43 certified documents per truck going to Ireland. But again Ireland seems to be more prepared with capacity on direct routes to the EU rapidly increasing. The cost of denial in the UK? https://www.politico.eu/article/uk-ireland-freight-tumbles-as-brexit-bites/
Even for this new report on UK divergence from the EU it is striking how few major areas are identified, because again of trae and proximity. https://www.global-counsel.com/sites/default/files/2021-01/Doing%20things%20differently.pdf
This is the Brexit GDP loss we were warning about, being played out in front of us. We would see it more if services trade was not already heavily depressed. Right now met by the UK government with that losing combination of bluster and denial.
Five years and waiting for a government or opposition to start talking realistically about the trade offs inherent in relations with the EU.
Expect plenty of this though in the future, minor changes, easing of checks etc. Doesn't affect the underlying realities that GB-Northern Ireland / EU trade is now liable to disruption and higher cost. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-55879313
