This morning, on a major French radio, a minister said: "We have doubt about AZ efficacy on older people" and explicitly *used it* to escape questions about the EU & French vaccination strategy in comparison with UK strategy.
NO and definitely NO.
NO and definitely NO.
We do have data that AZ vaccine (double-dose) produces the similar immune response across age-groups. We simply don't have enough data in trials to definitely prove AZ efficacy on older people ; results of a ~6% efficacy are statistically meaningless. https://twitter.com/paldama/status/1354000234368655360
So, this is only about *politics*.
At the expense of public health.
At the expense of public health.
(Oh, and of course, same people will wonder "why don't people want to get the vaccine in France, why so much doubts?"
)

Also, if you don't buy the immunogenecity argument, here is some quick-and-dirty but meaningful bayesian analysis by @ronfleix https://twitter.com/ronfleix/status/1356156677301678080?s=20
