listened to an awesome podcast by @ColinandSamir about how @MrBeastYT consistently creates tension in his videos ( https://open.spotify.com/episode/2FhBg0criC4DG0FMPDYnNg?si=l-LPZ2iDRYqntSW-GmPaYA) which is why they work so well

it got me thinking about this trend I'm seeing on brown singing tiktok (thread)
that leading question: do you remember when shreya ghoshal went?

now admittedly this is kinda maybe becoming a trend but the first one really popped off bc of how tension is manufactured
everyone loves shreya ghoshal so a question was implanted into our head - how does she go? which shreya ghoshal song is this?

and the payoff is totally worth it, the singer is excellent. because you wanted to know what song, you're gonna stay for longer
now imagine jevin started with hasi ban gaye instead of drivers license. would you stay? probably not.

the tension here is manufactured by you staying to hear the next song. but that tiktok didn't pop off nearly how his next one (same mix) did https://vm.tiktok.com/ZMe1aJ6EL/
here jevin introduced another song and teased it from the start of the tiktok. tension is manufactured again.

everyone who loved the first tiktok has a reason to listen again with this new song. and the payoff is so worth it. the mix is great.
basically what can we learn:

even in more "traditional" forms of media on tiktok, it can be adapted to create tension. that balance of tension is critical to capturing your audience.

tiktok loves watch time and having tension and investment means you're gonna watch more
oh and also go listen to that podcast bc it's excellent. (/thread)
