Has been word around that Boyd Cordner was set to miss the first half of 2021 due to concussion issues, now seemingly confirmed with the Roosters applying for full salary cap exemption ($350k, Cordner must miss 12 weeks). https://twitter.com/foxnrl/status/1356130615247007746
Unfortunately there is no set in stone rules for these complex concussion cases, can even be tough for treating Dr’s to predict prognosis with certainty. If Cordner is able to return it is common for players to have a
threshold for concussive blows/
concussion risk.

Once again good to see the Roosters taking every precaution with a player of theirs dealing with concussion. Overall wish the best for Cordner & hope his brain health continues to improve.
Just to answer a few questions in the replies:
- All serious injuries (to miss 12+ weeks) suffered in rep matches qualify for salary cap exemption, whether to the brain/shoulder/knee
- Has been approved multiple times before, see below for Foran, Bateman and Rapana examples

- Also Q’s about pre-existing concussions/knocks for Cordner & does this disqualify the claim; if the latest injury was suffered in rep match the cap exemption can be applied. Most recently Bateman was approved for surgery to fix congenital (from birth) issue after rep injury
