gojō satoru will never be the same after the events leading up to his sealing, a story told in profile and thread:
when gojō first arrives in shibuya he’s his normal self, blindfold and infinity intact, but throughout his confrontation with the unregistered special grades we can see him fall apart in a way that’s unfamiliar and only vaguely similar to the toji incident. +
at first he is manic. terrifying. he scares the curses. this is the gojō we recognize from his fight with toji. +
but then something changes. a person is thrown into him, which is the first time his face looks /frightened/ rather than frightening. +
from there he seems less and less manic. his eyes are wide but he is disgusted, frightened, or both.

and when i say frightened i’m not exaggerating. +
he removed his infinity for the assault, and presumably the last time his infinity was removed was as he experienced his half-death at the hands of toji. the person bumping into him and touching him reminds him that he can be touched. additionally, he wants to minimize deaths. +
when he uses his domain expansion and the resulting trauma he inflicts to kill all the transfigured humans, i think something in him breaks. remember, he has only killed two people before: fushiguro toji, the man who ruined his life, and getō, his best friend. +
in both of those instances, he showed “weakness.” he listened to last words and provided comfort. for toji he protected his son and for getō he gave him a final laugh from his heart. a final joy. gojō satoru is not cruel. in fact, i would say he is unflinchingly kind. +
which is why he looks so empty after killing a thousand transfigured humans, because even if they were too far gone to be saved, he could provide them no comfort, could listen to no last words, and had just caused untold damage to everyone he was supposed to protect. +
even before his encounter with getwo and the obvious terror he has at seeing the prison realm and emotional trauma that seeing the corpse of his best friend used gives him, gojō is obviously extremely effected by what he has to do on that train platform. +
tl;dr i love gojō satoru a lot and when this sequence gets animate i’m going to sob if they get the micro expressions down as well as gege does
