James Brown records "Papa's Got A Brand New Bag."

It was Brown's first recording to feature Jimmy Nolen on guitar, who would become known for his unique "chicken scratch" style of guitar playing.

Chuck Berry earned his first #1 single in the UK with a live recording of a 20-year-old song titled "My Ding-a-Ling."

Due to its lyrical innuendos, the then-public morality campaigner attempted to have the song banned.

The Platters broke barriers as one of the first Black groups to be major chart forces. They charted 40 singles on the Hot 100 including 4 #1s.
