The reason I post this, I feel the NBA is unique in that I’m drawn to individual players rather than an organisation. Might be because I’m an Aussie following a US league, but with the prevalence of free agency and players constantly moving, I don’t feel any loyalty to one team.
With that said, I follow the Sixers a lot closer than any other team, but that is purely because Ben Simmons is my favourite player. If he were to leave, I really don’t know if I’d continue to follow them.
Before Simmo was drafted, CP3 was my favourite player and I went for the Clippers. But when he was traded to the Rockets in 2017, I lost all interest in the clippers, while I had no intention of following the Rockets. Simmons’ rookie year couldn’t have come at a better time
In comparison, I’d never even for a second consider following anyone other than Geelong in the AFL or Liverpool in the EPL. Maybe it’s just because I’m more of a casual NBA fan, but I just don’t feel that same attachment or passion for any 1 team like I do with other leagues.
