Game reviewers: deploying the "X game *fires* Y game" trope in your reviews is dismissive and disqualifying
It's not Thunderdome; multiple games sharing common themes or mechanics can coexist. You're not *actually* ever going to be stranded on a desert island with limited Kallax shelf space
It's not late-stage capitalism; each game you play doesn't *have* to be better or reach higher than the one before it
Outside of revised editions of existing games, your games don't actually "kill" or have to kill other games
For a game to succeed doesn't mean you have to attribute failure to another game. This isn't the "Button, Button" Twilight Zone episode or something
Not diving deeper into the implications of a "this kills that" mindset in game criticism, but I'd venture there's a more prevalent demographic in the hobby that certainly sees criticism primarily through that lens
