A thread on our #Covid Experience-my husband and I tested positive for it on 13th January, and quickly became symptomatic over the next week as did all three of our daughters.
Neither of us are out of our 40's, with no underlying health conditions, apart from my asthma (1)
Of the 2 of us, one had had a vaccine, the other had not(this was offered through work and taken up in December 2020)
Guess which one ended up in hospital needed breathing support, antibiotics and medical support?(2)
In less than one week Len had scarring on his lungs, couldn't stay awake, couldn't get comfortable, was coughing up frothy white sputum and was struggling to breathe. The GP told him to go straight to A and E, one x-ray later he was admitted with serious concerns (3)
I was at home in isolation with 3 daughters all of whom now were symptomatic and about 50% done with Covid. He couldn't talk, and couldn't tell me how scared he was, not a great texter his texts got smaller over the course of his stay (4)
Which worried me a lot, it wasn't what he was saying it was the fact that he could only write the words 'Ok Luv' and no more as he was exhausted and scared. He came home 2 days later sounding and walking like he was 90 years old. He said he made his drs day as they were so (5)
Unused to discharging patients, they died or went to ITU. He was scared to go to sleep as he was moved to another ward in the middle of the night. He saw people die, others taken to ITU. In the middle of this, my best friend's mother in law, not much older than us,who had been(6)
in a coma since testing positive on Christmas Day had her life support turned off. As my husband was coming home, another family were not getting their loved one back. My strong husband was broken to a shadow of himself, he asked not to be left in the dark because he was (7)
scared. He was in hospital for 3 days , and he saw a side of things that will never leave. exhausted, burnt out staff doing their absolute best. People in the wards all around our age, all struggling to breathe and discharge not guarenteed. He was one of the lucky ones, his (8)
to recovery is going to be long and slow. Brain fog, fatigue, muscular pains, dizziness, lack of focus, difficulty in concentration, headaches, all of these are taking their sweet time going. The sense of disconnection is horrible, so basically, if you get offered the vaccine,(9)
BLOODY TAKE IT!! WITH BOTH HANDS! This virus does not discriminate, it has floored a pretty healthy family. We are lucky that family and friends have (safely)dropped off food and supplies. Not everyone has this kind of support so if you are able, please check on those around (10)
This is the most I have been able to write and focus on for 3 solid weeks, if there is one take home for anyone who has gotten this far, it is hang on in there. We are so close and it is just around the corner. We have sacrificed a hell of a lot in the last year, no one is (11)
Under any illusions life will go back to normal over night. We were so very, very, careful, and still caught it. The track and trace people did not look far to contact anyone as we had been nowhere since 14th December. (12)
And to everyone who has been so kind and commented on any of my posts, emailed, messaged and been so lovely, my heartfelt thanks to all of you (currently working through admin one step at a time, eh!) We will get there but please, think of your loved ones and stay safeđź’™
