Woke up to the news of Aung San Suu Kyi’s detention. She was forming a new government today. There are news of partial internet shutdown in some areas and phone lines not working.
If we go dark the world will go darker with us. Wishing there’s no violence on the streets.
In Yangon the internet is working at the moment so are the phone lines. My neighbour just took down his NLD flag that they had since last two days.
The fear of violence is real. Please say a little prayer for peace in the golden land of Burma
All telephone lines are shutdown. I was talking with @AungNaingSoeAns who is in downtown when MPT network dropped. Telenor and Ooredoo were already not working. ANS said it’s quiet in downtown & there are not many ppl on the streets.
Went out to local wet market and people are shopping as usual. Some were busy taking down NLD flags #video #bahan #myanmar
I am told to turn on local TV at 9 am
It’s 8:30 am here and local wet markets are full of people. Nuns and monks are walking around as usual. That’s how a coup look like right now
People are lining up outside banks. There is a rumour that banks won’t be opening today.
TV screen right now. BBC and CNN gone
MWD (military TV) confirmed the news a few mins ago. A state of emergency has been declared and all powers are handed over to the Commander in Chief for 1 year
Current road blocks in Yangon
Banks are closed due to “unstable system and the slow internet connection from 1st Feb until further notice”. That means no ATM, no cash, no food — right ? #Myanmarcoup
