Just woke up to a nightmare. Feeling a lot of anxiety. It’s 6:15 am right now. Of course they pulled this overnight while we were all asleep. This reeks of the old days when we would just wake up to terrifying news. This is going to be a very hard day.
Will keep this as my updating thread for what goes on in Yangon - as long as the internet lets me. It’s going to be a nightmare if they cut it off, my biggest fear right now.
So far - regional chief ministers detained in 14 regions, internet cut offs nationwide (not Yangon yet, everything is working fine), people are just waking up to the chaos, political arrests are being made. Some people with inside knowledge telling me they expected a coup Sat.
One of my colleagues friends who is a member of parliament was arrested by the Tatmadaw at 5:30 am today.
Have heard that the military has announced they will take over for a year from a quite reliable insider source.
A State of Emergency has been declared and all three powers of the State: legislature, executive and judiciary powers have been handed over to the Commander-in-Chief of Defense Services for 1 year.
My TV right now. Both international channels and of course state channels have been closed. BBC not working either.
Phone lines are returning in a weirdly scattered way. I don’t have it tho. Also can’t make calls but can use internet.
Banners like this supporting ASSK still hang high in downtown. The words ring in an eerily different manner today. We all pray for her health and the health of our politicians who have been wrongfully detained today.
