my cycling betting book. there is no school to learn this properly, no university, no phd. gotta be ready for a self-made adventure. it's rewarding if you do it right.
1. risk management! thousands of exclamation marks here! it makes a huge difference! read everything you can about it! just google it! it includes mental self-discipline. bottomline: you can lose a bet, but you can't lose the bankroll.
2. good research, good homework. work hard on the understanding of the sport. often it takes hours of work before making one single bet. cycling is specific in this regard. it's the most complicated sport to bet on, out there.
3. compare your notes with other guys doing the same job. twitter is great for this. ask, but be polite. it'll be a lot of pleasure if you do it right. you'll meet a lot of good friendly guys. just behave.
4. build your intuition, systematically. our brain, it's not only logic. read & watch. after you're done, reread & rewatch. rinse repeat. intuition is when words are not enough to describe it properly. good intuition comes only from good research. good intuition makes wonders.
5. technical execution of the bet. it's an art in itself. too many variables here to describe them all, but mostly hunt the dropping odds. hunt the value. understand your bookies, including small print (e.g. is it a void or a loss in case of dns?). understand your bookies.
6. once you get here, invest your winnings in your toolbox. buy books about betting or cycling, about risk management & about technical aspects of the game. upgrade as you go. buy the next book only after you're done with the previous one. otherwise you will read nothing.
7. passion management: it's a hard work, if you do it properly. it takes a lot of stamina. once you see losing the passion to do all of the above as good as you can, you better pause. no need to force it. bookies are open 24/7. take your time, heal & come back 100%.
8. eat well, drink well, have fun with good ppl. general well-being correlates nicely with betting results. it's a part of the game. don't be a monk, get laid, have a party after a good day, as a reward! gl, have fun, cheers!
