Reading list for transitioning into #GamesUR:
1) Games Usability by @kcisbister et al. I read this book when I was in grad school angling for GUR. It's a little old, but most of the approaches still apply. I believe there's a new edition in progress https://www.amazon.com/Game-Usability-Advancing-Player-Experience/dp/0123744474

2) The art of game design: A series of lenses by @jesseschell . Highly influential book on game design perspective, which is fundamentally different than utility design
3) Why [ @jwhopson] hate[s] fun. Good article on some of the more recent thinking of fun as a metric, and current ways of approaching feedback for game teams https://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2019-10-29-why-i-hate-fun
4) Crucial Conversations by Patterson. Communication is critical for UXR. Communication is more critical for GUR. There's no clear history to draw authority from, and sometimes it can be complicated to give artists feedback. https://www.amazon.com/Crucial-Conversations-Talking-Stakes-Second/dp/0071771328/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&gclid=Cj0KCQiAx9mABhD0ARIsAEfpavR3ryUD3CmXhQOJ1smJLY0cWfZ7ek7108qRuw6P1hHSKiReSUrTv5kaAsoOEALw_wcB&hvadid=241926391625&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=9033288&hvnetw=g&hvqmt=e&hvrand=16818713927784030251&hvtargid=kwd-6742378241&hydadcr=22562_10346325&keywords=crucial+conversations%27&qid=1612133504&s=books&sr=1-1&tag=googhydr-20
5) The gamedev biz handbook by @Futterish. Good explanation of how to build the business of making a game. Not critical for a researcher to apply, but important for understanding why someone might say "fuck it" when refactoring the UI would kill the game http://www.gamedevbizbook.com/
6) I haven't read this yet, but I'm looking forward to How to be a Games User Researcher by @Steve_Bromley https://gamesuserresearch.com/
And finally, Games User Research by @andersdrachen, @acagamic, & @Pejman_MB. Recent book on the state of the art.
