An in depth look into Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera’s relationship through the years. Starting with their close friendship during their time on The Mickey Mouse Club (A Thread)

Both Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears were nominated for “Best New Artist” at the Grammy’s (2000) this seemed to heighten the media’s interest in creating a rivalry between them, despite their constant effort to dispel those rumours.

Throughout the media frenzy Britney and Xtina continued to speak highly of each other, showing respect and appreciation for each other’s artistry, repeatedly stating that they are unique and shouldn’t be compared. They continued to keep in touch and remained good friends.

The 2003 VMA’s performance was an iconic moment. However it seemed to put a strain on Britney and Xtina’s friendship. Christina felt parts of the performance didn’t go as planned and MTV’s cutaway to Justin Timberlake’s reaction, rather than her kiss with Madonna was unfair.

Britney’s ex Justin Timberlake went on a joint tour with Christina which caused further speculation. Blender magazine also put out their Xtina issue, manipulating Christina’s words to trigger a reaction from Britney. Before this could be resolved privately, Britney had retaliated

In 2006/07 Xtina was happily married, won another Grammy and released a No1 album. Britney married Kevin Federline and had two children with him. Brit and Christina got back in touch, reconciled and exchanged gifts. Christina also supported Britney throughout her struggles in 07.

Their friendship was tested once again with the ratings battle of The Voice vs. The X Factor. Simon Cowell was bitter that The Voice was pulling in larger audiences and tried to reignite rivalry. Britney and Xtina stood their ground, refused to take part and defended each other.

Britney has since said that she’d attend a MMC reunion. Christina Aguilera has stated she’d love a “tea date.” In 2019 when asked about #FreeBritney Xtina didn’t know enough to comment (Brit had also requested privacy via IG) Xtina said she was happy that Britney had found love.
