Thoughts: i didn't grow up *hella* country or anything but going to 4H camp and other stuff in western NY really made me appreciate rurality and agriculture...and i swear to god people willingly (!) perpetuate so much classism towards rural folks. Especially when i was at brown.
Part of that animosity certainly comes from the perceived and often times real racism (+ all the other isms lol) that exists in rural america. Trust me, i KNOW bc i experienced it to the point of like...literal psychological trauma BUT that doesn't excuse it imo!
Not only do hella poc (especially Black and Indigenous ppl) also live rural lifestyles, but there's a difference between being like, "racism and other prejudice is a deeply embedded problem in rural america" and "lol rural ppl r dumb hicks who dont matter"
And idk it fuckin bothers me so much bc so many self proclaimed libs AND "leftists" have literally no respect for farmers, rural folks, and people who take care of the land and support the food system in the US (and again, yes, thats a complicated topic too, but still)
Even tho my family didn't start farming when they immigrated here (tho my dads side has agricultural ties in the south), you learn p quick that rust belt industry and agriculture can be pretty closely related
Anyway...uhhhh...i didnt go into this thread with a plan i just miss cornfields and my family and lowkey the "liberal coastal elite" is a real thing (tho not in the fox news way) and im allowed to post whatever i want on twitter lol
