For many families, getting three meals on the table and a day of work done with children at home is a major victory. Please don't put pressure on assignments, attendance and ability to assess during this wildly stressful time.
And I should have been clear In the first tweet: I know there is enormous pressure on teachers to deliver assessments. It’s absurd - and then some inevitably download this pressure to families.
Again - because I’m getting a lot of “it’s not the teachers’ fault.” I know! Of course the demands and expectations are mandated by the ministry. And it’s awful for teachers. Some teachers let families know the deal but don’t add pressure. Some add pressure.
Also important to note that none of us are at our best under enormous stress, and teachers are under enormous stress.
But I know more than one person now who has been given a lecture in front of their kids’ class about incomplete work or assignments while they try to just get everyone fed and through the day and it’s been the final mental health straw...
