I have mixed feelings about advice on gendered (and racialized) rec differences, because (a) we should absolutely be cognizant of the way our language discriminates and try to mitigate it but also (b) it would be nice if we could value typically feminine traits in everyone 1/
instead of trying to write about everyone the way we typically write about men (i.e., reward being communicative, a team player, and a joy to work with in everyone, in addition to being just as likely to call a student "brilliant" regardless of social identity) 2/
buuuuuuut also maybe "courteous" is not the best use of limited reference space for anyone. why would you do that to a student? /3 https://twitter.com/hamlinr1/status/1355884001366581293?s=20
