It’s a curious US foreign policy pathology that articles by foreign officials arguing that the US should ignore its own interests and allow allies to dictate its foreign policy choices are regarded as serious.

A few other points: the article argues that the JCPOA didn’t work because no follow on deal was made after 2015.

Presumably, they mean in the 370 days between the JCPOA entering into force and the inauguration of Donald Trump? That seems... tenuous.
I really love how they imply the idea that it’s America’s fault that regional militaries invest in the wrong technologies and are underpowered.

But apparently that’s something Washington is meant to fix?
And finally, I love the editors at Foreign Affairs, but can’t believe they let an entire article be published repeatedly referring to the Gulf States as “US allies” when they are not in fact treaty allies.
