big news that Morrison is going to announce he has a plan today. Every Liberal leader since 2013 has campaigned on a purported “plan” and still tanked the economy while failing to address climate change.
regular reminder that press gallery compliance - corporate media obediently and uncritically broadcasting their statements as fact - is the central plank in all Liberal Party campaign strategies.
Scott Morrison: I have a plan.
Canberra Press Gallery:
lmao so “federal handouts” are not stimulus now? Last March every press gallery member called the $130 billion Frydenberg announced they would give bosses - damage-control due to footage of long centrelink queues - AND the coronavirus supplement “stimulus”.
so we have ongoing wages suppression, the coronavirus supplement has been cut by $400 a fortnight, and the $100 billion given to bosses to supplement wages costs ends in March. Where will this “stimulus” be spent? Could it be handouts to targeted constituencies for votes?
business investment and consumer confidence started tanking from the first Hockey budget in 2014 but that won’t stop the entire press gallery from repeating every deceitful phrase Morrison uses to describe the mess he and his mates have made of so many lives (“the economy”).
christ ABC AM are “reporting” cuts to stimulus - to the wages subsidy and the coronavirus supplement - and “IR reform” and “support for tourism” as randomised and disconnected announcements. All wrapped in the usual saintedAustralianTaxpayer™️ Liberal Party campaign comms.
here it is. The prime minister and his gallery cheer squad will cite doctored headline economic figures to tell voters/consumers/audiences to spend money we don’t have because Morrison government fiscal settings cause wages suppression and cut income support.
