Day +1 after second @moderna_tx dose.

People have been asking me how I feel.

I feel grateful. I did not take any ibuprofen or acetaminophen, and I am rallying my immune system to rock and roll.

Some thoughts. Would love @notdred to weigh in.
With the first vaccine, I had barely any symptoms other than a sore arm and maybe a little queasiness.

With the second, it was clearly different. Not terrible, but there was an obvious immune response; I had some shaking chills, and have a low-grade fever.

Here’s the question
How in the world could the studies of the @moderna_tx and @pfizer vaccines be considered blinded?

in fact, if I were in either study, it would be pretty obvious that I received the active vaccine (unless in a diabolical scheme, the companies utilized a pyretic control).
As a triallist, what is on my mind is the fact that knowing which arm I might reside in a trial would raise the concerns for internal contamination bias, such that participants behave differently knowing they were vaccinated.

But here’s the interesting question.
IF vaccinated participants somehow let down their guard, socialized a bit more, or wore masks less frequently, one could make the argument that they, exposed themselves to a higher risk than the placebo arm.

And yet, the results look the way they do. 💥👊🏼
It speaks to the ongoing debate about whether we should continue masking and distancing. With such effective vaccines, and other mitigation strategies, the hope would be that we can get our arms around things pretty quickly once vaccination is more widespread.
I wonder if @moderna_tx and @pfizer Tracked behavior among their study participants. It might be interesting to see if there was an excess of risk behavior in the vaccinated arm. This might confirm an even higher effectiveness right then was reported.
Regardless of today’s shake and bake, i will continue wearing an N 95, physically distancing, and being extremely cautious in public.

And so should you.

Today’s experience gives me hope for a better 2021.
