Buffalo Public Schools is set to start a phased reopening tomorrow, and the ONLY article @TheBuffaloNews is running today is this anti-union screed. Why not write about how haphazard and rushed the reopening plans are, and how conflicting information was going out to school admin as late as FRIDAY AFTERNOON?
Why not write about how the district is forcing teachers, school nurses, and staff to come back to school RIGHT before they are able to be fully vaccinated, thus forcing them to gamble with their lives or go on leave?
Why not write about how the district could have just started reopening with the highest need kids and teachers who opted-in - a plan that schools worked hard to put in place last fall, but instead are pushing for a wider PK-2 reopening?
Why not TALK TO TEACHERS or SCHOOL NURSES or PARENTS who are struggling with what it looks like when 4 year olds need to say, I don't know, pee their pants, and teachers aren't allowed to touch them? Or how the district won't let kids on playgrounds outside?
Why not explore how the quality of education will be changed by teachers having to teach in-person and virtually simultaneously?
Why not write about how there has been ZERO mention of the new strains on the horizon and how they are more contagious and potentially deadlier? Or how NYS lifted orange and yellow zones two days ago, and in-person dining is starting ALL AT THE SAME TIME?
How do you put a quote in about how whiter suburban districts have reopened "without incident" when THE BUFFALO NEWS ITSELF published that there have been almost 2,000 COVID cases in those schools since they reopened?

As a parent with a Kindergartner who is included in the reopening plans, I have the choice as to whether or not I want to send him back. The district is NOT giving teachers the same choice, and our teachers are the ONLY REASON we have gotten through this awful year so far.
