File this under "I probably shouldn't tweet it but I will anyway" -- a major issue in the assistant-to-staffing pipeline that doesn't get discussed enough is how that works in the era of cable/streaming. I have literally never worked on the same show twice. (1/X)
And I promise it's not because I suck at my job! (I have references lol.) By the time a streaming show I've worked on airs, let alone gets picked up for another season, I've already done 1-3 more gigs. (2/X)
I've actively been trying to get into Network TV for years now, in large part because there's at least the *chance* for more consistent work, and staying with a show season to season, being able to move up (assistant, freelance, staff). (3/X)
But I have to take the jobs I can get. (And to be clear, I am eternally grateful to be employed during this pandemic.) Look, I know there are a million reasons this assistant-to-staffing model is broken, but this is a major one that I think people need to be more aware of. (4/X)
The idea of paying dues is pretty messed up and broken in many different ways, but it's hard not to look back on the past 5 plus years of my life and wonder how any of that even counts as dues-paying. Like, how do I pay my dues when I can't even stay at the same job? (5/5)
