I am convinced @BostonJoan, whom I respect greatly, did not mean to make @evelyndouek the focus of her thread. Her invitation was to look skeptically at Facebook's self-interest in legitimizing the Oversight Board. However...
...the effect of these tweets by @BostonJoan, @carolecadwalla and @MarietjeSchaake (combined reach: 680K followers) was to suggest to observers that @evelyndouek (6K followers) was a Facebook lackey for doing something that reporters often do -- accept documents on embargo
Suggesting that an academic's work is supporting a platform's goals is obviously fair game. Implying that an academic is doing so in exchange of favors is career-threatening and, in light of the evidence provided, baseless.
I really don't mean to throw fuel on flames here. This isn't a #TeamEvelyn tweet. God knows I've written clumsy stuff on here. I'm just a little sad and this is how I dealt with it.
