Ladies and gentlemen, the IQ test of the tech world:

Self-selecting nerds who throw you arbitrary hoop-puzzles that almost always have nothing to do with the actual job

(HT @stefan_frei, who wisely noted that perhaps Oracle is not a terrible exception to make) https://twitter.com/shaft/status/1355696154990628864
I personally despise it

I prefer to inquire about explaining basic concepts to see if you know what you're tawking about, what you are proud to have done and tell or maybe even teach me me about technical details, and finally what questions you have for me
One of my best bosses took a chance on me

I didn't know the programming language or the rest of the technology stack, but I picked it up very quickly

Also, he was wise: I had to prove myself as a probationary contractor first
Next time, I should ask: "What is the worst technical mistake you ever made, and what did you learn from it?"
I knew a very smart guy who had to solve a complicated optimization problem involving how many bananas a hungry camel could transport over so many miles

And he ended up writing boring device drivers

This guy later came up with his own protocol for transporting data over voice
