I went to a township school with no library, computer or science lab,& no internet. I started using a computer in my first year & had to get lessons during orientation to be able to operate one. My story is not unique—my qualm is how online learning excludes many students like me
Yes, teaching and learning has to continue even during a pandemic, but have universities consolidated how they are excluding a significant portion of the student populace especially in townships and rural areas. Sure you can post them laptops but who’ll teach them how to use it?
It’s time to take stock of how online learning actually widens the inequality that already exists in our country of contrasts. Many people will be left behind not cause they’re stupid/lazy but because they have so many factors against them making their learning near impossible.
I used to write my assignments by hand/pen first then type them on a computer at the computer labs, usually at night. Imagine how time consuming and demotivating this was. I’m honestly worried about all the marginalized matriculants who’ll be expected to catch up with no support
