Education:

We can and need to do better

Good reminders below on some basic keys to success via @wef

1 / n
Expect high standards but...

Provide the keys needed to succeed.

Some include:

- Free books and computers
- Two or more meals for all
- Transportation
- Tutoring and family support with after school and weekend programs
- Community building activities and environments

2/n
And, support both families and teachers.

Families need help and respect, but so do teachers and administrators.

Instill the importance of good curriculum but...

Empower teachers with autonomy to use approaches that connect to their specific families

3/n
Also, I didn’t use the word student but total family, and I mention community.

It takes all working together and the building of a community of support beyond just the basics of reading, writing, arithmetic, etc..

Finally, it requires funding for sure but smart funding, not throw money at the issue funding.

As the Estonia example shows (see the video at the start of this string), more can be done with the same amounts we are spending or less.

Many examples also exist the U.S.

I don’t have ‘the’ answers and I’m not an educator.

I’ve been involved in the space years, though, and have examples that I’ve seen work, which I can share.

More than anything, I hope this sparks healthy debate and action.

As my friend @TR401 says...

Let’s get to work!
