Many colleges and universities have figured out how to diagnose their populations and control outbreaks—and offer a vision for more normal life until the vaccine is available to all. https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2021/01/colleges-took-pandemic-seriously/617879/
This isn’t just about @IndianaUniv. It’s also about @Cornell, @RutgersU, @Illinois_Alma, @LifeAtPurdue, and more who learned from one another, redeployed people & resources, and employed the tactics that experts all over the world have advocated but too few in the US have adopted
It’s also because academics like @cmyeaton, @bethlinas, @paulmromer, @ashishkjha, @CT_Bergstrom, @nataliexdean, @gregggonsalves, #meredithmatone, and others I’m forgetting (I’m sorry!) were willing to jump on the phone or email to talk to me and share their expertise.
But in the end it’s because countless people at @IndianaUniv decided we really were all in this together, were willing to do whatever it took, and were willing to commit the resources it would take to making our community safer.
I’ve cried many times in the last year observing their indomitable spirit and can-do attitude. At times, that’s saved me. It certainly restored my faith in humanity.
I’m also grateful to our leadership, who had the will and were willing to commit the resources to this massive endeavor. Not enough did; that deserves praise and thanks.
