I try to explain this to friends: just because you can legally dine inside restaurants now doesn't mean you should. The government hasn't said it's "safe" in any way. It's just about the top-line numbers and hospital capacity. But they ALL take it as as "safety guideline."
"New York says it's safe." I'm hearing this every day. Such a strange disconnect - tends to be folks who don't like government "telling them what to do" who wrongly take changes to Covid restrictions as a proclamation of safety.
I also think my friends in government do NOT understand how restrictions like those on indoor dining affect ALL pandemic-related behavior. And then there are the classic Democrats who actually believe the people who despise them will somehow praise "opening up." They won't.
Also, not a single restaurant in existence is truly limiting capacity to what the state says it should. There's no enforcement. Zero. Bupkis. If you walk by or pick-up takeout, it's packed. Bars too. Again, they will claim "safety approved."
UPSHOT: This places an even greater burden on those decent citizens who try and stop the spread, whilst those who don't care about their fellow human beings are rewarded. It's not how it should work. And it wears people the fuck down. Stop giving in to the clowns.
