I read a post that said if only men would exercise their authority over women as God intended and women would submit to that authority as God intended, men would not commit violence against women.

There are several problems with that assertion.

1/4
One is that it puts the burden on women not to be victims of violence.

Another is the lack of data backing up the notion that patriarchy protects women from men. I suspect that’s because it not only doesn’t protect women, but can’t protect women.

2/4
Still another problem with the idea that there is some sort of godly patriarchy that protects women is that there is no form of patriarchy that is godly.

Patriarchy is a culturally imposed power structure, and Jesus told his people is to reject the world’s power trips.

3/4
The overarching problem with seeing patriarchy as a means to prevent violence against women is that it ignores Jesus’ own teachings on how to treat people: do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

No one needs patriarchy. It’s ungodly and unnecessary.
