Vaccine distribution and Publix thoughts on Sunday:
Having “Where Shopping is a Pleasure” be the only private pharm providing the vaccine is a classic example of elitism and yes...systemic racism.
Don’t believe me? Follow along...1/
A map of Publix locations in Duval county.
Clearly there is one part of town that the clean green machine avoids, right? But a biz goes where they make money, and that’s what Publix should do.
But state governmt has a job to protect ALL of its people
So how is this racism? 2/
In Duval the areas without a Publix, or any grocer at all (food deserts) are in mainly African American communities.

These Americans are 1.4 times more likely to get COVID than whites (CDC) and are 1.7 times more likely to be hospitalized and 2.8 times more likely to die 3/
And guess what? State data shows Blacks have lagged behind in vaccinations with just under 5% of the 1.3 million first doses as of 1/27/21— but 17% of the state’s population.
This along with having to use internet to make an appointment and clearly needing transportation...4/
