I’m not sure why people (esp leftists) think others can be reached by a constant state of condescension and indignation. Nothing grinds my nerves as much as the “oh you’re just finding about this NOW?”.
A lot of people on this app posture themselves as being educators, organisers, or activists but I’ve been around all of those irl and none of them exhibit these behaviours because they know it’s counterproductive.
Eventually, people have to understand that the constant dunking and bully like behaviour isn’t doing anyone any favours. Like, sure it gave you a dopamine hit but so does exercise. Who are you even here for?
Truthfully, it’s also boring. It’s the same few quips on repeat and it does nothing to advance socio-economic justice. I’d tell you all to go outside but we’re under lockdown so instead I recommend just not being condescending on a constant basis.
I know it’s a cliche but while being rude is easier, being nicer and being patient especially is a lot more effective. It’s not 2016 anymore and I think the Chapo-like behaviour is better left to the podcast hosts themselves.
This isn’t to say don’t dunk on Nazis and racists or w/e but a good starting point for me has been figuring out who I can reach, educate, enlighten and who is a lost cause. There’s so much missed opportunity for education b/c of the need to dunk on folks.
