1- Dear followers: The largest protest in history is taking place right now in India. Since Nov 2020, protesters across states, religions, industries, communities and genders have been peacefully protesting in/around Delhi (the capital) against controversial farming bills.

2- These bills were agreed by parliament @PMOIndia without any consultation. These bill are designed to corporatise Indian agriculture and will undoubtedly cripple the (already struggling) farming industry across the country.

3- Protesters have been busy whilst in Delhi- they have been providing food (langar), shelter and first aid to locals in/around Delhi. They have even set up mini schools!

However, it has been one of the harshest winters on record. 150+ have died whilst peacefully protesting.

4- Meanwhile, the Prime Minster @PMOIndia has not acknowledged the protesters. He is also not acknowledging the heinous acts being carried out by the police and members/supporters of opposing right-wing parties.

In the last few days alone..

5- ..protesters have been shot at with tear gas, water cannons and bullets. Water + electricity supplies to protesters have been cut. Protesters (including elderly men and women) have been beaten with batons. Hundreds of protesters are missing.

6- There are videos of groups of police beating lone Sikh men whilst shouting “take off his turban.”

(FYI, Modi has a history of inciting religious hatred particularly against minority groups e.g. Sikhs and Muslims. In 05, he was banned in the USA for encouraging genocide)

7- The govt have issued temporary suspensions of internet in Delhi. Journalists and those on the ground live streaming these crimes against humanity are being detained by police. Instagram & Twitter are censoring accounts exposing the events unfolding.

8- I say all this to ask my UK Twitter fam to please take a few minutes to sign this petition. 11- Finally, pls keep this protest and the welfare of the protesters in mind and in your prayers. This issue may feel removed from you but without farmers, we have nothing. If you’ve eaten today- thank a farmer. This is a fight against capitalism. A fight for humanitarianism.
