Mandatory verification/ID on social media accounts is a massive red herring in combating abuse and would cause massive problems for marginalised groups. https://twitter.com/Ankaman616/status/1282336809507225602
What you're seeing here is a result of:

-Social media companies that would prefer to have automated reviewing/moderation tools as that saves money at scale

- Organisations with non-diverse decision makers having not understanding the form and function of racism.
- A more diverse industry in football players being targeted by a groups of people from all sorts of different groups who are quicker at finding loopholes than social media companies and organisations are at closing them.
- And on top of all of that, you've got well meaning people who would like to help, but have no idea where to start.

- And on top of that further, you've less well meaning people twirling their evil cartoon moustaches
We keep turning the conversation into "what can the social media companies do?" as that's much simpler to understand than unlearning years of this mess. (Literally, look how many times people use the word "simple" when they propose ideas.) https://twitter.com/Ankaman616/status/1354749514968662019
