I have been playing this game since it officially released on PS4. The game came out in September I believe? But I pretty much play it everday when I can. The first time you meet Barbara is after confronting Dvalin and saving him.
To this day, I wish Barbara had her own side story. I would like to see more about her day-to-day, but anyway we meet Barbara. The deaconess. Seeing the Holy Lyre damaged pretty much crushed her soul, right? Do you see the fear in her eyes? She begs for Barbatos' forgiveness.
Now Venti, after seeing Barbara"s look so crushed, decides to "fix" it. This is where I started to ship them. If you pay close attention, Barbara looks at Venti as he is fixing it. Do you see the wonder in her eyes? Then after Venti "fixes" it, do you see how happy she looks?
Afterwards, the way Venti just looks at her as she is hugging it. You may argue, "Oh, he was just trying to avoid a troublesome situation", but he seemed satisfied upon seeing Barbara happy. Like he was pleased. He could've just booked it before, but he chose to do this.
Venti also mentions in his voicelines that Barbara's voice is "sweet". He also calls her "darling". Barbara also mentions in her voicelines that his voice is "amazing". She even tried to learn his songs, but the melodies are too hard for her.
Yes, the cutscene is where I started to love them, and they're voicelines are nice. But I love them for other reasons. They look nice together aesthetically, having green and blue. Mondstadt is a place they cherish. They love music and/or singing. And have a small height gap.
But there's another thing that most wouldn't think about because they're too busy caught up in assuming people ship them.for gross reasons. Barbara and Venti both hide their worries behind smiles. They wear a mask. If you read Barbara's stories, she only allows herself to be-
sad for only 30 seconds. She puts others worries before her own. Of course, Barbara loves to help others. This is why she became a deaconess and an idol. Buf that's not healthy. What she does is exhauating work. But she doesn't complain. Still, that's unhealthy.
Venti on the other hand. Now that's something we can make all kinds of theories on, but it's clear he has been through a lot. People only see him on the surface, the drinking and the joking around. And it makes me angry when people argue that when it comes to these two.
He has seen death. His vessel is that of his friend, who fought for a freedom that he'll never get to see. And Venti decided to live on as him. To cherish his memory. Venti was even worried about Dvalin! Another dear friend of his! But haha, drunk god go brrr I guess.
When you do his AR story, Venti even takes you somewhere quiet and opens up to you. He's even surprised when you pick up that he doesn't want to talk more about what happened to his friend because it's painful. He sees you as a true friend. Still think he's one note?
People act like Venti is lewd, but not once does he ever make any lewd remarks towards ANY of the female characters in the game. The part where Mona's clothes gets torn was to prevent her from looking into his past. To keep his secret hidden. Not for perverted reasons.
But hey, I don't expect everyone to jump ship and get om the venbara train. Not everyone is going to like a ship and that's fine. I prefer apple juice over orange, but I don't bash people who prefer the latter. It's not that serious. Life goes on.
Another reason I like these two is because Venti would help Barbara relax. She has so much on her shoulders, and probably a lot on her mind. The thought of him just taking her out and playing gentle music for her is a nice thought. Precious musicians being precious.
As for that power dynamic thing, I don't know where the heck that came from. I play in EN dub and Barbara may sound cute, but she doesn't play. She even dismisses her catalyst with sass. You know she'll drown Venti the second he does something she doesn't like. But hey, that's me
I guess because Venti is MALE that automatically means he's going to take advantage of her. Venti may be a tease, but he does not sound or does any predatory. Maybe that's this fandom's kink, but it AIN'T mine. Venti is a kind Archon. Stop putting him in a bad light.
Again, same Venti that was worried about Dvalin, who helped Stanley and maybe even Xiao. Who doesn't rule Mondstadt because he wants the people to make their own decisions. Who helped Venessa and saved that lady that one time in the manga. Same Venti.
Again, god x human troupe? Not uncommon. Check other anime, manga, books, etc. You"ll find something. As always, blocking and muting is an option. Instead of assuming shippers are gross, maybe take the time to get to know some of them before you judge. That's my Ted Talk.
