TW Domestic Abuse.

Since the pandemic began, domestic abuse and violence has increased.

It takes many forms. It is the most difficult thing to walk away from.

I know.

Here are some things to watch out for. And remember, if you're suffering, you're not alone [thread] [1]
Gaslighting

"It's all in your head"
"It's just your pregnancy hormones"
"I wouldn't do that to you"
"I promise I'm not"
"You're starting to be exhausting"
"You're making this too hard to deal with"

Gaslighting destroys you. It's dangerous, it's painful and it's very real. [2]
Control

"You can't go out today, you have things to do here"
"That's your job"
"I've told you, you need to do it"
"Don't wear that"
"Don't cut your hair, I like it long"

You're an adult. You decide what you want to do. No one else can dictate that. [3]
Emotional manipulation

"I'm sorry, it won't happen again"
"I only do it because I love you"
"I wish I could control myself"
"I'll change"
"You deserve better"
"It's just because I'm depressed"
"I will get help one day"

They don't love you. They don't change. [4]
Physical & sexual abuse

Pushing
Hitting
Kicking
Biting
Forcing you to do things you don't want to do
Hair pulling

Threats
"If you leave me, I'll get you"
"I'll find you"
"I'm stronger than you"
"What can you do to stop me?"
Slamming doors
Breaking things

There are services to help to keep you safe. [6]
You're not alone.
Find help.

Walk away. You're stronger than you realise, and you deserve better

Life doesn't rebuild itself in a day. But it does rebuild eventually, and it gets so much better

Aim for someone who loves you as you are. You're worthy of it
