Re reopening schools, @BorisJohnson & @Keir_Starmer haven't thought this through: they just want too-early reopening 1/

Schools need to be made SAFE b4 reopening & that means more than giving teachers half of a vaccination. 2/

The stats & graphs are clear: Covid cases increased via schools after reopening in September & cases are now increasing in nurseries, left open since Xmas. 3/

Why hurt or kill more people by reopening schools too soon? We need to ensure safety FIRST. 4/

How to make schools SAFE? I’m not an expert but, unlike @BorisJohnson or @Keir_Starmer, I can apply commonsense. Here are my suggestions. 5/

a) Vaccinate all school staff & all students, with both vaccine shots. That'll take us until at the earliest May as second shots are only being given after 3 months. 6/

b) Set up smaller classes so social distancing is possible, with a shift system, morning & afternoon school, 7/

c) arrange deep cleaning after every class & d) provide adequate ppe for staff & students. 8/

e) set up a proper test & trace system & quarantine/self-isolation with furlough funding for families so parents can stay off work to isolate. 9/

f) put adequate ventilation in place in all schools and nurseries. 10/

Unless all these things & more are in place, schools will not be safe to reopen & the NEU is 100% right to say so. 11/

I’m sure an expert in health & safety could add to my list but our 'leaders' don’t bother listening to experts. 12/

I’m sorry neither @BorisJohnson nor @Keir_Starmer has even begun to think such safety measures are necessary. 13/

But just mindlessly spout, “We must reopen schools, children’s mental health” when really they mean, “We must reopen schools to get parents back to being wage slaves.” 14/

And our media & some dumbed-down Tory & ToryLite puppets echo them, based on the idea that the more times you repeat a lie, the more it becomes thought of as truth. 15/

When the truth actually is: schools are currently NOT safe & many measures need to be implemented to prevent them spreading Covid before they can be reopened. 16/
