What is happening at the Farmers' protest in India and why it requires your immediate attention, a thread
The Indian media which is famous for being biased is showing fake news and not covering the truth about the farmers' protests so we need to spread this information on social media.
WHY ARE THE FARMERS PROTESTING?
The farmers are protesting three ordinances that were passed by the Modi government in Rajya Sabha despite there being strong opposition from all the opposition parties and the way the bill was passed was totally undemocratic and against the +
rules of Rajya Sabha as it is explained in the following video (with English captions)
At the time of independence, the government has Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) under which they created various market places (mandis) in which the buyer of the produce has to have a license and has to buy the product at Minimum Support Price (MSP) to avoid +
the exploitation of farmers. A small number of farmers were actually able to access these market places, mainly farmers of Punjab, Haryana, and Western Uttar Pradesh all the other farmers sold their produce privately where they were vulnerable to exploitation. This was because+
there were not enough market places. According to the ordinances passed by the government, people buying privately from farmers will have to pay no tax. This is a way of attracting buyers to buy privately where the farmers will not be paid MSP and will be vulnerable to +
exploitation. The situation of farmers is already very poor in our country as everyday 28 people who are dependent on farming commit suicide in India. The government tried to market these ordinances as "Free market" when this exact model of "Free Market" has failed in America +
and other developed European countries where the farmer suicide rates are also high due to this exploitation.

These farmers are labeled as "Anti Nationals" and "Khalistani" for protesting for their rights.
DEMANDS BY THE FARMERS
1) Rolling back these ordinances which will lead to the exploitation of farmers which make up for 50% of India's population

2) Protect APMC markets where the farmers can sell their produce in a regulated environment.

3) Clearance of loans of farmers due+
to which most f the farmers commit suicide in India.

4) New laws for the regulation of MSP so that the farmers get a fair price for their produce.
Some of you might be thinking what is so bad about the privatization of agriculture? Well, an average farmer is not educated enough to understand the contracts made by multinational companies and does not have the means to fight a legal battle which happened to farmers of Gujarat
