Blaming Raila for 1982 coup is a desperate attempt to revise history. My third thread on Railaphobia in Central Kenya. LONG THREAD, FREE TO DISCARD
In the previous thread, I argued that Kikuyu politics revolves around contradictions. And because Railaphobia has no concrete rationality, the justifications are naturally contradictory. It was evident from the responses on my thread especially from die hard haters of Raila
Perfect case of Clutching at straws – desperate search for justification where none exists, harping on lies and outright distortions of facts. Some think the 1982 coup is the perfect case to pin Raila. Another common one is the 2007 “no Raila no peace” and the “41 against 1”
Most desperate is talk of handshake. One reader argues “we were to move our support to Raila but he chose to work with Uhuru who has messed the economy.” This handshake is the perfect illustration of the difficulties Raila has faced in his political career. He must be is wrong
As argued in the previous thread, when Kibaki formed government, Kikuyus became suspicious of Raila bcos “he is power-hungry.” This worsened during the coalition government where Raila was negatively assessed as the one responsible for the misses in the government
When Uhuru was declared President in 2013, people in Murang’a celebrated with full loaves of breads – to signify end of the “nusu mkate”. When Raila contested the elections, he was accused of angling for another round of coalition gvt, with Kikuyus vowing against it. Aende Bondo
For the rest of his term, rather than fulfil his promises to the people, Uhuru went around with Ruto preaching against Raila who was out of government. Kikuyus masses agreed the enemy was Raila and looked forward to the collapse of Uhuru’s case at ICC – so that “he can deliver”
Uhuru preached so much hate against Raila in campaign for second term. Openly insulting him as “muguruki” and “kimundu giki.” He appealed to them to unite and help him send Raila home. Even once publicly told them “the only problem in Kenya is ONE PERSON called Raila
After the (bogus) 2017 elections, Uhuru took office and later entered into handshake with the same Raila. Now, the Kikuyus transferred their wrath to Raila ONCE AGAIN – that he is the reason Jubilee could not deliver. The Kikuyu ego is such that Uhuru couldn't fail. Ni Raila.
Before handshake, Raila was the problem. He incites teachers and doctors to go on strike to tarnish the government’s name. When you ask what influence Raila has to incite teachers and sabotage the economy yet he has no power, there is no answer. All they know is that “ni Raila”
When finally, Raila chose to work with Uhuru, you would imagine “vita imeisha”. It was godsend opportunity to excuse Jubilee failures again and lump them on Raila. The DP is openly lying that Jubilee was performing all well till Raila came into the house, hence its Raila to blame
That is the most recent contraction where Kikuyus change goalposts to ensure RAILA IS ALWAYS TO BLAME NO MATTER THE CONTEXT. Being Raila has been extremely hard. Poor boy
Note: I NOWHERE IMPLY THAT KIKUYU HAVE AN OBLIGATION TO LIKE RAILA. Its natural that any politician will have admirers and haters and Kikuyus have their freedom of political opinions. What I addressing is the uncharacteristic paranoia widespread in Kikuyuland against Raila
Most readers of the thread are young and have genuinely appreciated my historical chronicles. Let me recount the 1982 coup which many people refer to and blame Raila. Next thread….
