Looks like we’re at that stage again where I have to remind everyone how dangerous schools are. I am/was a Primary School Teacher in London. 1/
In September we introduced: bubbles, one way systems, air purifiers, extra cleaners, staggered lunch and home times and regular hand washing. None of those measures worked. We had children and staff going down daily and Christmas couldn’t have come fast enough. 2:
Of the other “safety measures” being touted: ventilation, masks and rotas: primary school kids are incapable of wearing a mask all day and what about lunch times? Ventilation is totally impractical - having all the windows open in winter. Rotas? You’ll still have millions of 3/
of unnecessary journeys. But schools were open in June and everything was ok you say? The virus was at much lower levels in the population then and schools were only open at about 40% capacity. The gvt and Labour want to fully reopen schools with 30,000 cases a day 4/
The successful countries in East Asia, Aus and NZ introduced a zero Covid strategy as advocated by @socialistcam. The full return to schools in September was the main drive of the second wave. It appears they’ve learnt nothing and if they press on we’re just going to return 5/
to higher levels of transmission, cases and deaths. Madness. Efforts should be focused on ensuring every kid has a laptop and access to the internet (broadband communism).
And if you feel the need to push the lazy teacher line - save it, I’ve already quit.
