i will never get over the dissonance between how we call google/twitter/fb centres of "top engineering talent" despite the products released by such continually demonstrating otherwise
forgive me for tech tweeting, i've just seen that "big list of senior engineer recruitment targets" and it's just a big list of markers for socioeconomic status
personally, i hear "ex-googler" and assume "we have created our own tooling/build stuff to copy what googlers are used to. i.e slow and broken" and hear "ex-twitter" and assume "the product may not work, is kept alive by sres, but boy have you seen the type signatures"
welcome to the meritocracy, we got people who can memorize textbook chapters to impress people who have never asked "am i working on something that improves people's lives"
INTERVIEWER: So, you can reverse a linked list, but can you put these posts in chronological order?

Q: Why is the google interview process so long?
A: It filters out the people who'd struggle with the build times

i have probably sabotaged myself with this thread, now i'll never get to work on a workflow engine, rife with meta programming, and configured with recursively templated strings in yaml
alas
alas
muting this so it doesn't interfere with people telling me they like pictures of birbs
