So Bartomeu and co are now blaming the financial mess on Messi. That's what this is all about, isn't it? https://twitter.com/FabrizioRomano/status/1355679184086036486
Beyond being an obvious attempt at passing the buck, I don't think Bartomeu co have thought this through. This should blow back badly on Bartomeu because
1) He signed the contract in 2017
2) He wanted to offer a new contract in 2019...a lifetime contract.

Messi on the other hand has been wanting out of the contract since 2019..eventually handing in a transfer request in August of 2020..when an adamant Bartomeu said "I couldn't let the best player in the world go"
Given Messi's exit plans since 2019 it looks like he was wanting to walk away from the loyalty bonus of €79 Mn and the renewal fee of €115 Mn (if the leak is right).
WHEN HAS ANYONE WALKED AWAY FROM €194 MILLION HANDED ON A PLATTER?
Sit down and take those numbers in.

This is all on Bartomeu and the Barca board. And I'm sure La Liga was aware of the player's contract as well and what did Senor Tebas do? Arm twist the player into staying.
Bartomeu and co have wrecked Barcelona with poor management with little or no oversight from La Liga and UEFA and are now trying to blame their talisman for it. What a shame..
