Just like Mount Lebanon was separated from Greater Syria; the Syrian War proved that sadly their was a historical need & a present pressing need to separate the Alawite Coastal Mountains from the rest of Syria https://twitter.com/SyrianComment/status/1355721791273054211
As an Alawite myself who opposes the regime as well as the opposition , I completely recognize that my mentality & views doesn’t come as nearly as close to the majority of Syria’s Alawites, including members of my own family

You can say that our likes are a minority inside a
minority

Here’s a little bit of background on why I came to the conclusion I did

Syrian Alawites were historically persecuted and were always & continue to be fearful for those events to be repeated

In my previous thread I mentioned why their fear as a community is at an
alt time high today of life & death

They see the Syrian regime as the better of two evils

Their roles in society & participation in state affairs & to a certain degree their economic way of life was uplifted under that time period
Saying that, however even today though, you can still find many Alawite Villages which are lacking in services & this is done intentionally by the regime

It represents what also comes with the regime protection

Alawites believe they can feel safe under the regime despite it
being corrupt & dirty

They are aware how the regime works & what it secures; & for them it’s better than a new regime like the official MB led opposition (which frankly isn’t presenting itself as a democratic alternative) in which they are unaware of how their future will end
under them

This isn’t love for the regime but this is the most average & realistic dominant mentality & view in most of Syria’s Alawites; & likely the view of many Syrian Religious Minorities like the Christians (today), with the slight exception of Druze who took in a way a 3rd
Neutral path

You would find many Alawite figures before the war who opposed the regime to a certain degree, but have become extreme loyalists because they see the battle today as one of life & death
For years I tried to believe that we Syrians could overcome this hatred & fear that exists on both sides of the war in Syria
I tried to think in a different manner, however after all this blood and mass killing that occurred in Syria & the sectarian wounds which will NEVER heal (which made Alawite Fear worse than before as I said in the previous thread) I can no longer ignore the sad reality which
currently exists

Syria is currently split & will be split forever

It’s about time when it becomes official

& if it is held together; it’s bound for it to come apart again
This is not something I personally want; but this is my realistic analysis as someone from the community; who can understand the justifiable Alawite fear, especially today but can also as someone who empathizes & participated in the Syrian Revolution via protests in 2011 which
started as demands for democratic changes in Syria for ALL of Syrians

Look at where we started in 2011 & look at where we are today

Our country is destroyed, split, people are dying of hunger, so much of the population is displaced
For years I believed that as Syrians, if we were united we would be stronger & I still do but the reality on the ground might be different

What we desire is different from what has been drawn & what will be drawn on the ground in Syria (politically, militarily & socially)
The Syrian Opposition Supporters fight amongst each other like animals on social media ; never mind with loyalists on the ground

I’m reading sectarian comments but this isn’t just one or two, it’s the general mood of many, whether they admit it or not
Syria is dead but Syrians Remain & so due their wounds

Syria’s Alawites are living in a different world from many Syrians; it’s hard to see how they will live in a united country with the rest of Syrians after the Syrian Regime trapped them in a dirty manner, risking their
future of the sect for the future of the regime & after the Syrian Opposition conducted a disgusting generalizing media campaign
which has planted sectarian views & grudges sadly held by Syrians which will most definitely lead to revenge attacks
Revenge Attacks are still likely to occur even if Transnational Justice Occurs, but too a extremely less degree than without Transnational Justice

Imagine the revenge attacks that would occur in the future if transnational justice won’t be served against War Criminals &,
this is is what the regime is moving forward with today!

The case of Syria’s Alawites is the case of many Middle Eastern Religious Minorities, however it is also the case of many Ethnic groups like the Kurds who were not given a homeland; but as well as the Palestinians who’s
homeland was given to another group of people

What we are seeing today is the result of foreigners drawing borders in an area they don’t know the dynamics of, especially in countries which contained ethnic and religious diversity
The borders of Sykes Picot were accepted by some groups; however they were rightfully & justifiably rejected by others

In Syria today, Kurds are looking in the future to split from Syria when the time is right but remain temporarily through Federalism like Iraq, &
Syria’s Alawites are looking for a safe haven

It’s hard to see how Syria will remain united realistically regardless of what we want especially when the social & political needs of many groups won’t be satisfied through unity
