I know I'm never going to read all the new releases I'm interested in during the year, but in reflecting on 2020, there were definitely books I wish I had read in time for the reader's choice awards. A thread
The Infinite by Patience Agbabi. I really love middle grades, and it's been a while since I read a middle grade sci fi (this one involves time travel). Unfortunately my library still doesn't have a copy.
Remembrance by Rita Woods. Heard about this through booktuber Bowties & Books. An intriguing multi-generational historical fantasy
Daughters of Jubilation by Kara Lee Corthron. Heard about this from blogger Ms. WoC Reader ( https://womenofcolorreadtoo.blogspot.com/2020/10/daughters-of-jubiliation-by-kara-lee.html). YA historical fantasy. I like the idea of small magics, forces that can help the everyday and tip the scales in your favor in minute ways
Sound of Stars by Alechia Dow. This YA sci fi has been on my radar, but Harli's author interview () and review ( https://thescholarlysquid.com/2020/10/22/nothings-gonna-change-my-world-the-sound-of-stars/) really got me excited to read this. It sounds like a sweet read that's oddly comforting despite being dystopian.
Maya and the Rising Dark by Rena Barron. Another one put on my radar by Ms. WoC Reader ( https://womenofcolorreadtoo.blogspot.com/2020/09/maya-and-rising-dark-by-rena-barron.html). MG contemporary fantasy. This one features the orisha, and I'm a sucker for stories about deities
